“Mooresville, NC - The South Iredell Volunteer Fire Department was awarded a $1,000 stipend from the national nonprofit Home Fire Sprinkler Coalition (HFSC) to increase its home fire sprinkler education locally by conducting a live fire and sprinkler side-by-side educational demonstration.
“With funding through a Fire Prevention and Safety Grant awarded by the Grant Programs Directorate of FEMA, HFSC selected 100 fire departments nationwide that participate in the “Built for Life Fire Department” program to receive the stipend. “Built for Life Fire Departments” commit to making home fire sprinklers a focus of their educational efforts.
“We are privileged to receive this generous stipend,” says Fire Captain Brian Hoover. “With the help of HFSC’s educational material, we can move forward with this important educational demonstration, which illustrates the danger of home fires and the life-saving benefits of home fire sprinklers.

The live demonstration included two similarly furnished rooms — one protected with fire sprinklers and the other not. People who attended the demonstration were able to experience firsthand how quickly a fire can become deadly versus the effectiveness of a fire sprinkler system in controlling a fire.
The demonstration took place on 10/30/2010. For more information about home fire sprinklers, please visit the South Iredell Volunteer Fire Department website at SouthIredellvfd.com, or the Home Fire Sprinkler Coalition website at www.homefiresprinkler.org.
Fire Department Receives Lower ISO Rating
Beginning September 1st, homes, businesses, and churches covered by South Iredell Volunteer Fire Department will have a lower insurance rating.
Officials with the fire department have received notification of the department's insurance service rating, which is commonly referred to as an ISO rating, has lowered from 9 to 6.
The lower rating will mean that residents who live within the South Iredell service area will save on their home insurance costs.
Home Insurance rates are based on ISO ratings, which is an indicator of Fire Department's ability and equipment to respond quickly to fires. A lower rating computes into lower insurance rates.
After September 1st, homeowners will need to contact their insurance agencies to let them know of the lower rating.
Insurance agents said a drop in ISO rating from a 9 to a 6 or lower provides a significant annual savings.
